The community of what is currently Lutie, before 1890, was part of the Rocking Chair Ranch, located north of Wellington. In 1908, the Pleasant Valley school district was organized in the area. In 1909, the community name was changed to honor Mrs. Lutie (R.H.) Templeton, wife of the county attorney.
