Two daily trains came through Wellington in the 50s. One was the KATY (Missouri, Kansas and Texas)... the name was made into the brief acronym because only the Kans as-Texas branch came through our town; in fact, this specific branch endedin Welling- ___________ ton.

Baseball back when

I graduated from Wellington High School (WHS) in 1953. We dropped baseball after my sophomore year, and it was then 50 or so years later when the high school began to compete again. Maybe 2007 is when they finally started back.

One of the benefits of growing up in Wellington was attending the Ritz Theater on Saturdays to watch western movies in the 1950s. The employees at the Ritz would up their game with a meeting just prior to the first showing. They included ticket sellers Ruby Lucas or Mrs.

The carnival that almost wasn’t

A 1953 graduate of Wellington High School, as memories come to mind, I sometimes jot down stories that I call “Snipp ets.” These are left for my kids, grand kids and great-grandkids and may become of interest to get to know me better after I am gone.
