Open to sixth, seventh and eighth graders, Stiles’ essay advanced to the District 9 VFW Patriot Pen’s essay contest, where she again won the top prize. Patriot’s Pen winner Rosalind Stiles accepts the local Glynn Moore VFW Post 6439 award. Conducted nationwide, the VFW-sponsored youth essay competition encourages students to use their skills and knowledge of America’s history and their understanding of today’s American society to write essays expressing their views on a patriotic theme provided by the organizers. Witnessing the presentation are her dad, Mike Stiles, and her grandmother, Nancy Ellis.
