Wellington’s Stiles awarded VFW Patriot’s Pen essay honors, advances to state contest

Glynn Moore Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Post 6439 Auxiliary awards Wellington Junior High School eighth grader Rosalind Stiles its Patriot’s Pen essay cash prize of $300. Open to sixth, seventh and eighth graders, Stiles’ essay advanced to the District 9 VFW Patriot Pen’s essay contest, where she again won the top prize. Patriot’s Pen winner Rosalind Stiles accepts the local Glynn Moore VFW Post 6439 award. Conducted nationwide, the VFW-sponsored youth essay competition encourages students to use their skills and knowledge of America’s history and their understanding of today’s American society to write essays expressing their views on a patriotic theme provided by the organizers. Witnessing the presentation are her dad, Mike Stiles, and her grandmother, Nancy Ellis.
