Morningside Church of Christ volunteers recently erect the church’s new state historical marker in preparation for a public unveiling at 1 p.m. Saturday, June 6 in Memphis. Morningside was founded in 1952 as the first Black Church of Christ in Hall County, and the church building dates back to 1906 as the Hughes community school in Childress County. The school was closed in 1930, and the building was later moved to Memphis. COURTESY PHOTO
