Wellington Elementary School first graders dive into the life cycle of a chicken prior to summer release. During the 21-day hatching period, the two classes, made up of 30 students, incubated 48 Plymouth Rock chicken eggs, hatching 22 for a successful rate.

Through Thursday, June 22, Childress Independent School District (ISD) will offer free lunches to children and teens 18 years and under. Meals will be served from 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m. Monday-Thursday at the Childress Elementary Cafeteria. Meals can be picked up to-go or eaten on site. Parents may purchase a meal for $4.75.
