Dear Editor,
As I read about the first Wellington High School Reunion in 1951, I remembered an earlier event which may qualify as the “very first.” Christmas season, 1949. The Class of 1950, searching for a “Fund Raiser” to support their Senior Trip the following Spring, voted to sponsor a “Christmas Homecoming Dance.”
Arrangements were made to use the smaller room in the Community Building for the dance. The high school dance band, “The Rythum Kings,” made up of teachers and students, was hired for the occasion. One dollar per person was charged at the door. Very little advertising was done. Yet, to our surprise, suddenly there was standing/ dancing room only, as the place was packed out.
