Childress, Wellington players named to 2023 Press Pass Sports Football Team

AMARILLO — Two Childress Bobcats, including Da’Reon Mathis and Scout Smith, and five Wellington Skyrockets, including Nixon Folk, Jackson Jones, Ethan Nevarez, Ramon Rodriguez and Caleb Strickland, were recently named to the 2023 Press Pass Sports Football Team, announced Saturday, Dec. 30.

The Wellingtn Lady Rockets take down 4A tournament-host Brownwood in a 47-34 final during the Girls Big School Division of the Texas Bank Holiday Classic Saturday, Dec. 30. Wellington went 4-0 over three days with Charley Wilbur named the tournament’s Most Valuable Player (MVP).

Hotcakes for Homeruns, a pancake dinner benefitting the Childress Bobcat baseball program, will take place from 6:30-8 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 18 at the First Baptist Church Fellowship Hall. Tickets, which can be purchased through any Childress High School baseball player, will be $10 if bought prior to the event or $12 at the door. The dinner will include pancakes, sausage and a drink. Bobcats take on Tatum Tough Tournament championship

CANYON — The Childress Bobcats made it to the championship game during the Tatum Tough Tournament, a basketball tournament honoring Canyon High School head boys’ basketball coach Travis Schulte’s daughter, Tatum, who passed away in 2017 at the age of nine after a lengthy battle with cancer.

Jan. 5 The junior varsity and varsity Childress Bobcat and Lady Cat basketball teams play Idalou in Idalou.The junior varsity Lady Cats play at 2:15 p.m., followed by the varsity Lady Cats at 3:30 p.m., the junior varsity White Bobcats at 4 p.m., the junior varsity Blue Bobcats at 5 p.m.
