Texas Tech Alumni-Wellington Chapter celebrates its three scholarship recipients for the 2025 year. Caleb Strickland, left, and Anthony Ortiz will be heading to Lubbock in a few short weeks, while Madison Waters will begin her first year of Texas Tech Veterinary School of Medicine in Amarillo.

The 2025 inductees to the Rocket House Hall of Fame, inducted by Wellington Ex-Students, include Kyle Kane, left, and Jason Mathis, with his mother Renee Mathis accepting his award on his behalf. Announced at the Wellington Ex-Student Reunion on Saturday, Aug. 2, the crowd celebrated two of the most decorated runners to ever wear the red and white.

The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) Ellison Park Renovation Project grant application proposal includes constructing additional parking spaces and functional sidewalks to access Parkview Manor Assisted Living and Wellington High School. The Wellington City Council and Ellison Park Working Group anticipate hearing from TxDOT in October and the Texas Park and Wildlife Department in January 2026 whether the grant applications are approved.

A member of the maintenance staff, Larry Molina accepts the Collingsworth General Hospital STAR honor for the second quarter of 2025. An “all-around great guy”, Molina is applauded for being a very kind, mannerly and respectful person.

Construction of the new Wellington Gun Club (WGC) clubhouse began in September 2024, funded by a private donation earmarked for the project. Now a popular local venue for youth shooting sports, WGC is also receiving a NRA Foundation grant and plans to add a second trap field and upgrade its rifle/pistol range in the near future.
