WELLINGTON – With 100% attendance to kick off the new year, the Collingsworth County Board of Directors and volunteers convened at 6:30 p.m. Monday, Jan. 12 in the Ellis Art Center of the Collingsworth County Museum for a bi-monthly meeting.

The Wellington community sends prayers along with the Greenbelt Electric Cooperative (GEC), Inc. linemen heading to Rask County in East Texas on Monday, Jan. 26. “All electric cooperatives are governed by seven cooperative principles,” said GEC General Manager Randy White.

WELLINGTON – The Wellington Volunteer Fire Department (WVFD) kicked off its 2026 Varmint Hunt with check-in at 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 10, followed by weigh-in at 1 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 11. Each two-four-man team paid an entry fee of $400.

The South Plains, Rolling Plains and far Southern Texas Panhandle, including Childress, Collingsworth and Hall counties, received inches of snow Friday night, Jan. 23 through Saturday evening, Jan. 24, thanks to Winter Storm Fern. According to Storm Search 7, Wellington totaled 6.

Texas Parks & Wildlife Department approves matching grant for renovation of Wellington’s Ellison Park

WELLINGTON – “The Ellison Park Working Group is very excited to announce that on Thursday, Jan. 22, the Texas Parks & Wildlife Department (TPWD) officially awarded a matching grant of $608,966 for the renovation of Ellison Park,” exclaimed committee chairman Neal Odom.
