Agents of death

Let’s keep them out of Texas

Hospice is about relieving symptoms and accepting natural death. There is a huge difference between this and the west coast euthanasia laws that give those in the “healing profession” a new role as agents of death. I recently returned from my 10th visit to California, and I have always found the February meetings in San Diego to be delightful. It was good to talk to a friend from decades ago and learn new ideas from the speakers.

After one talk, I struck up a conversation with a couple that lived about 200 miles up the California coast. They were certain that they would soon be moving, perhaps to Texas or some other state. There are several reasons why people are leaving the beautiful state of California, but foremost on their mind was the issue of healthcare.

With the laws that now exist, they had no confidence as elderly, soon-to-be-retiring individuals that their providers would be working for their good. After all, utilitarian ideology can be a powerful and cruel thing.
