TOWN HALL MEETING Sen. Charles Perry will host a town hall meeting from 9:3010:30 a.m. today, Friday, Sept. 9 at The 501 Winery, 109 Ave. E NW, to discuss the upcoming 88th Legislative Session and answer questions from the community.

9/11 MEMORIAL & PROJECT STAIR CLIMB In honor of 9/11, join Childress Main Street and the Childress Fire Department Saturday, Sept. 11. Moments of silence will be held at 8:46 a.m., 9:03 a.m., 9:37 a.m. and 10:03 a.m.Additionally, Childress firefighters will climb 1,908 stairs, representative of the steps the firefighters took on 9/11, at 7:30 p.m. at Fair Park Stadium. The community is encouraged to walk the track in support. Donations will be accepted for the fire department.

4TH ANNUAL PHOTOGRAPHY CONTEST Enter in Childress County Heritage Museum’s 4th Annual Photography Contest Fundraiser. Categories inclue people, places, animals/ insects and things, as well as this year’s special category, sports. Entries will be divied into four age groups: elementary, junior high, high school and adults. Entries, which cost $10 per photo, may be submitted Sept. 15 through Oct. 15. Photos will be displayed in the museum gallery until Nov. 2. Award winning photos will be displayed until the 2023 contest. Voting will commence Oct. 18. JR. FIREFIGHTER PROGRAM Interested in becoming a firefighter? Join Childress Fire Department’s Junior Firefighter Program, which will be hld Oct. 3 through May 5, including two days per week of class and training.

Applicants must be at least 17 years of age and enrolled in school. The program is limited to 10 spots.Applications must be turned into the Childress Fire Department no later than Sept. 19. Following, interviews will be scheduled, and the selection of applicants will be announced Sept. 26. Following completion of the program, students will have the opportunity to become volunteer firefighters with the Childress Fire Department. SIREN TESTING The tornado siren is tested at noon the third Friday of each month. If there is inclement weather, the siren will not be tested.
