About six months in to writing my columns,I was tempted to quietly quit. But after some reflection, I decided that perhaps I should keep going. Now, if my articles get boring, it would be time to quit, so that was the first rule to justify my column – NEVER BE BORING!
I did feel a need to expand my topics a bit, so in addition to oncology topics, I decided to hit on some hematology and internal medicine (both of which are also part of my training). And, having been unofficially trained in the School of Hard Knocks, I also decided to include occasional episodes from my life, especially since we hope that some in this region will be inspired to enter medicine, nursing and other healthcare professions.
And this is my 100th article! About the two dreaded topics – politics and religion – I do not endorse persons or parties but do talk about life, liberty, justice, opportunity and healthcare. I believe in medical moderation and traditional West Texas values. I have my 18 reasons for God, and prayer and thanksgiving are big topics with me, but my article theology doesn’t extend much further than John 3:16.
