Wellington Elementary School first graders dive into the life cycle of a chicken prior to summer release. During the 21-day hatching period, the two classes, made up of 30 students, incubated 48 Plymouth Rock chicken eggs, hatching 22 for a successful rate. Candling eggs and keeping a journal of what happened inside the eggs throughout the different phases, excitement rose as the students witnessed multiple chicks break through the shell and hatch. Deemed a successful egg-to-chick project, Texas A&M AgriLife Collingsworth County Extension Agent Kenny Patterson thanks first-grade teachers Lauren Patterson and Chandi Taylor, as well as Ashley Lemons for providing the eggs.
