A timeline of Memphis

Prehistory-1850 – Sixty thousand buffalo were being hunted by less than 10,000 Indians.

1861-1865 – Civil War.

1874 – Soldiers removed the Indians and left the buffalo.

1876 – The buffalo were nearly exterminated.

1878 – Col. Charles Goodnight brought in 1,000,000 cattle and the age of the cowboy.

1887- Fort Worth and Denver Railway broke ground in Hall County, and the cattle were shipped north.
