Euphemisms, by any other name, are terms with extra syllables. Sometimes, extra words.
“Poor” comes to mind. A euphe mism is “under privileged.” Five syllables. Count ‘em. “Underprivileged” was one of the first euphe misms I ever learned.It’s since acquired its own set of baggage and has fallen into disuse. Back in the day, it was just another word for poor.
