Final resting place of 1938 Samnorwood graduate discovered
This week, the Naval History and Heritage Command (NHHC) Lost 52 Underwater Archaeology Branch confirmed that the wreckage of the World War II submarine USS Harder (SS 257) has been found. Buford John Young, of Samnorwood, was one of 79 sailors aboard the submarine when it was sunk by Japanese depth charges on Aug. 24, 1944, as the U.S. sought to retake the Phili ppines from occupy ing Japanese fo…
