We all learned in history class that Texians were white immigrants to Mexican Texas who supported the Texas Revolution. We were also taught that the 1876 act of the Texas legislature which established Collingsworth County misspelled the namesake of the county, James Collinsworth.

When I was about 6 years old, the English language began playing tricks on me. It still does, but I’m getting used to it.In our family, we called the toilet a commode. Toilet was an alternate word. But we always said commode — a classier word reserved for indoor toilets.
