Wellington Elementary School teachers and staff welcome students from 2-3 p.m. Monday, Aug. 10 and again 9 a.m.-12 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 11. Sparklers met their teachers and dropped off their school supplies in preparation for the first day of school on Wednesday, Aug. 12.

CISD puts $133.9 million bond package on ballot

CHILDRESS – The Childress Independent School District Board of Trustees on Monday unanimously approved calling a school election for Nov 3, 2026, to consider a bond package in three parts totaling $133.9 million.Childress ISD administration and board formed the Citizens Advisory Committee.

MEMPHIS – The Memphis City Council voted down a proposed ordinance governing RV parks after more than 40 people showed up for a public hearing on the matter Monday night, August 10.More than 20 people addressed the council with most of those being opposed to the proposed ordinance.

WELLINGTON – Both natives of Harmon County, Okla., Harry Stallings and Doris Downs married June 6, 1948, at 19 and 17 years old. Harry served 18 months in the US Army and completed one semester of college waiting for Doris to graduate from Vinson High School.
