Graveside services took place at 2 p.m. Wednesday, October 28, 2026, at North Fairview Cemetery with her niece, Lesa Thornberry, officiating. Arrangements were by Adams Funeral Home of Wellington. The family received friends from 5 to 6:30 p.m. at the funeral home on Tuesday, October 27, 2026.

Geneva was born on October 15, 1938, in Quail, to Obie and Lydia Belle Ogletree White. A 1957 graduate of Quail High School, she married her classmate, John A. Thomas, on June 9, 1957, in Wellington. The first couple to marry in the new Bowie Street Church of Christ building, the newlyweds headed to Dallas to attend Gupton Jones Mortuary College.

Back in the Texas Panhandle, Geneva and John both graduated from Clarendon College then moved to Lubbock where John continued his education at Texas Tech University. Upon his graduation, they returned to the Lillie Community of Collingsworth County to farm and ranch.

Geneva taught school and coached basketball at Hedley and Lela. She owned and operated Neva’s Kiddie Korner for seven years, then worked at Wellington State Bank for over 19 years prior to her retirement.

A faithful member of the Bowie Street Church of Christ, Geneva served in many areas. A former member and past president of the Wellington Business and Professional Women’s Club, she became a district director of the club. She served on the board of directors of the Wellington Cemetery Association for many years.

In later years, Geneva and John celebrated their 50th anniversary in 2007 with a Caribbean cruise, enjoyed several bus tours and developed many friendships across the country.

Geneva’s greatest joy was spending time with her family, whom she dearly loved, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; four brothers, Welman, Elvis, Harold, and P.J. White; her two sisters, Marie Farris and Jo Helen Cabbell; and her daughter-in-law, Sheila Thomas.

Geneva is survived by a daughter, LaVonda Wells, of Wellington; a son, Lindy Thomas, of Wellington; four grandchildren, Tyler Hartman and Laurie, of Edmond, Okla., and Charlie Hartman and Sierra, Garrett Thomas, and Jaylann Thomas, all of Wellington; six great-grandchildren, Mollee Hartman, Chloe and Everly Richardson, and Benjamin, Olivia, and Emilia Hartman; a sister-in-law, Mary Ruth White, of Hedley; and her many nieces and nephews whom she loved greatly.
