MEMPHIS — Memphis native John R. Ballew recently published “The Hall County Gangster: Raymond Ballew,” a book about his grandfather, Jefferson Raymond Ballew, a salesman, entrepreneur and bootlegger.
“Raymond was the greatest bootlegger in Hall County history,” Ballew said. “He told anyone that asked that he was a bootlegger. He was not ashamed of what he did.”
