SHIRLEY SAVERANCE JOHNSON
Funeral services for Shirley Saverance Johnson, 85, will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, Oct. 17, 2022, at the First United Methodist Church of Childress. Burial will follow in Childress Cemetery under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home. Visitation will be held from 5-6 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 16, 2022, at Johnson Funeral Home.
Shirley passed from this life on Oct. 14, 2022. She was 85 years old. She was born in Santa Anna, Texas on Jan. 11, 1937, to Randolph and Wauree Saverance. Shirley married her high school sweetheart, Robert Johnson, on Sept. 5, 1953, at the Methodist Church in Novice, Texas. Shirley and Robert were married 60-plus years until his death on March 14, 2014.
Shirley is preceded in death by her husband, Robert; daughter Becky Johnson Barley; parents Randolph and Wauree Saverance; and sister Nancy Ward.
Shirley was a longtime member of the First United Methodist Church and very active in church activities along with her husband, Robert. She was a loving mother and grandmother and a caregiver to her mother and father until their deaths. She was a homemaker for many years, always having a hot meal on the table for lunch for her family and any friends her children might bring, as she was an excellent cook. After her homemaking career, she worked many jobs, including Gibsons, Farm Bureau and Childress County Appraisal District, where she worked with Nadine Parr and Marsha Leonard until her retirement.
Shirley loved to travel with her husband and family, including many trips to California to visit her sister, Nancy. She also liked to visit the casinos whenever she had a chance.
Shirley loved her family, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a fighter until the end when God called her home.
Shirley is survived by a son, Larry Johnson and wife Sharon; a daughter, Glenda Cribbs and husband Bud; a son-in-law, Tony Barley; and grandchildren Landon Johnson and wife Lauron, Larin Boles and husband J, Zach Pierce and wife Chrissy, Mallorye Pierce, Toby Barley, Brooke Baize and husband Chad, Bradley Cribbs and wife Simonia and Reese Cribbs. She had many g re a t - g randch i l d re n , including Laney Johnson, Cole Martin, Casey Martin, Gavin Navarette, Gunner Pierce, Garrett Pierce, Brylie Montecino, Maddi Bryant, Max Boles, Rowan Boles, Addi Baize, Hayden Cribbs, Jaidee Cribbs and Ivy Cribbs. Shirley is also survived by two sisters, Patsy Rehyer and husband Louis and Peggy Bland; a brother, Randall Saverance and wife Georgene; and many nieces and nephews.
