Rita Irene Green, 81, formerly of Wellington, Texas, peacefully passed away Sept. 1, 2026, in Memphis, Texas, at the home of her sister.
Rita was born July 14, 1945, in Wellington. She was the daughter of Conley Lee Moody and Lorene Young Moody. Rita graduated from Quail High School in 1963, and she married Elmer Jewel Green, the love of her life, in November 1965. After Elmer’s death in 1987 she remained in Wellington raising her grandson.
An old classmate of hers at Quail, Paul Boyce, contacted Rita and she moved to Gladewater, Texas, where she lived until Paul’s passing in 2023. At this time, she moved to Memphis to live with her sister, Delores McWhorter.
Rita and Paul had many happy years together living in Gladewater where she absolutely loved East Texas. Rita loved crafts and made many quilts and cross stitch projects to give to family and friends. She loved to garden and grow her own vegetables. She and Paul especially loved to travel to tractor pulls and old car shows.
She is preceded in death by her parents; an infant brother, Doyle Wayne Moody; her older brother, Kenneth Lee Moody, and his wife Gloria; husband, Elmer Jewel Green; husband, Paul Boyce; and a brother-in-law, Joe David McWhorter.
Rita is survived by a daughter Rinda, of Amarillo; two grandsons including Mathew Roberts, whom she raised, of The Colony; a granddaughter; her sister, Delores McWhorter and her children, Shannon and Shelly, both of Memphis, and Shawn, of Gruver; a brother, Ernest Eugene Moody and his wife Catrina, of Wellington, and their children, Jade Dominguez, of Idalou, Austin, of Perryton, and Eric, of Wellington; Elmer’s extended family; and many cousins.
A memorial service honoring Rita’s life will be held at a later date. She will be buried beside her husband, Elmer, in the Memorial Gardens Cemetery at Wellington. Cremation and arrangements were by Adams Funeral Home of Wellington.
Special thanks go to Dr. David Shaffer and the Childress Hospice Team for caring for Rita.
