Childress Elementary School students celebrated the importance of disability awareness Wednesday, April 5, kicking off Autism Awareness Month. Organized by Bailey Bradley, a 2022 Childress High School graduate, students traveled through six stations, each representing a different impairment or disability, including communication, hearing, physical and vision impairments and intellectual and learning disabilities. Learning how to sign their names using American Sign Language, students also learned how to read lips, how it feels to read with dyslexia, what it’s like to lack fine motor skills and more. Bradley, whose younger brother is autistic, said she wants to spread awareness not only for her brother but also other special needs children.
