Wellington High School educator Karoline Ashmore’s sixth-period seniors read “The Rime of the Ancient Mariner,” by Samuel Taylor Coleridge, last week. This epic poem examines the burden of an albatross that the main character carries around his neck.

Bobcats drop games to Abernathy, Idalou

CHILDRESS — The Childress Bobcats had a tough week, dropping games to both Abernathy and Idalou. Despite outhitting Abernathy nine to seven, the Bobcats ultimately fell in a 9-7 final Saturday, April 1, as the Antelopes pulled away for good, scoring four runs in the fourth inning.

Weinette claims district championship

CHILDRESS – Wellington High School senior Caleb Weinette, 2022 state qualifier, won the boy’s championship following the 2-2A District Invitational Monday, March 20 and Monday, April 3 at Stoney Ridge Golf Course in Childress.Weinette shot 81,82 for his 163-winning score.

SPEARMAN — The Childress Bobcats and Lady Cats, as well as the Wellington Skyrockets and Lady Rockets, competed at the Spearman Lynx Relays Thursday, March 30 at Lynx Stadium. Results are as follows. Varsity Boys 3 Childress 136 4 Wellington 121.5 100 Meters 3 Travon Lewis 12.
