Wellington Aquatic Venue (WAV) staff and lifeguards open the 2024 season with a rain-day Friday, May 31, then commenced Saturday, June 1. Hours of operation are 1-6 p.m. Tuesday-Saturday and 2-6 p.m. Sunday. The WAV is closed on Mondays.

Childress Rotary Club hosts the Greenbelt Games, a track-and-field special Olympics competition, Monday, May 13 at Fair Park Stadium. Sponsored by IREN, over 60 athletes from six area schools, including Childress and Memphis Independent School Districts (ISDs), competed in the games.
Under the leadership of Coach Amy Inman, 10 Lady Rockets and Skyrockets began competition Wednesday, May 8 at the regional tennis tournament in Amarillo.
