WELLINGTON – A free enrichment program for students entering first-sixth grade, the Wellington Opportunity Center, Inc. (WOCI) is excited to announce its plans for the sixweek summer 2026 program, held 9 a.m.-2:45 p.m. Monday- Thursday, beginning June 8 and ending July 16.
Childress Elementary School is recognized as a Healthy School Recognized Campus — a designation awarded to the school by the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service. Hedley to be elementary grades only next fall

HEDLEY — Hedley ISD plans to drop junior high and high school classes next fall and become a Pre-K through 6th grade district, according to a letter parents received today.The letter states that a formal resolution will be adopted by the school board at a called meeting next week.

LEVELLAND — Makaila Granadoz, of Wellington, and Lauren Hightower, of Childress, were among more than 800 students who received degrees and certificates in Spring 2026 at South Plains College.
Despite the windy, chilly weather, members of Delta Kappa Gamma met for their monthly program Tuesday, May 19, taking a tour of Edith Johnson’s butterfly garden, certified by the North American Butterfly Association. The garden visit was a follow-up to an earlier program given to the group by Johnson, who is coined the “Butterfly Lady.” GRACE HOLMAN
