WAYNE PHILLIPS
Wayne Phillips, 79, of Wellington, Texas, passed away Friday, May 9, 2025.
Graveside services took place at 1 p.m.Tuesday, May 13, 2025, at North Fairview Cemetery with Rev. Howard McCann, retired Baptist minister of Lubbock, Texas, and Rev. Noah Downing, pastor of the Calvary Baptist Church, officiating. Arrangements were by Adams Funeral Home of Wellington.
Brad Helton, Hudson Helton, Justin Helton, Ronald Phillips, Brad Bawcom, Dustin McKinney, Abel Sanchez and Jason Folk served as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers were Doug Rush, Gary Kerbo, Robert Resor and Barret Phillips.
He was born on Jan. 27, 1946, in Mangum, Okla., to Miller L. and Alice Ferguson Phillips. Wayne graduated from high school in Plainview, Texas, and then served two years in the U.S. Army. He married Marilyn Russ in March 1967 in Plainview. She preceded him in death in 2020.
Wayne worked for Gebo’s for several years. In 1978, he and Marilyn moved to Wellington from Dalhart, Texas. They opened the My-T-Burger restaurant and Phillips Car Wash. He retired from the restaurant in 2020.
Wayne was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church.
He was also preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Lori Beth Phillips, in 1976; seven brothers; and a sister.
Wayne is survived by his son, Cody Phillips, and wife Kim, of Wellington; two grandchildren, Barret Phillips and Brynlee Phillips; and three sisters, Rosetta Bridges, of Amarillo, Texas, Audrey Kerbo, of Plainview, and Evelyn Kay Broughton, of Houston, Texas.
