It is with deep sorrow and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of David Franklin Hill, who entered into eternal rest on June 9, 2026, at the age of 79.
David’s services took place at 2 p.m. Friday, June 12, 2026, at Southside Baptist Church, 14890 FM 2042, Tell, TX 79259, with Mr. Kerry Wood officiating. Graveside services will immediately follow at the Tell Methodist Cemetery under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home. David will be available for a public viewing from 10 a.m.- 5 p.m. Thursday, June 11, 2026.
David was born to Catherine (Wilkerson) Hill and Franklin Francis Hill on July 18, 1946, in Childress, Texas.
David was a man of remarkable character, defined by his fierce work ethic, his devotion to the Lord and an unmatched love for life’s simple pleasures. Born on July 18, 1946, he spent his 79 years building a legacy of dedication, community service and deep connection with the people and places around him.
A Legacy of Hard Work and Service
David was a powerhouse of determination. His career in pipeline construction took him across the United States, showcasing a grit and skill that earned him widespread respect. He brought that same entrepreneurial drive home as the proud owner and operator of his own business, Hill Dozer.
Beyond his businesses, David felt a strong calling to serve his community, proudly dedicating his time and leadership as a county commissioner. Whether moving earth or guiding local government, David approached every job with integrity and a true desire to help others.
A Friendly Soul and a Lover of Nature To know David was to have a friend. Exceptionally friendly and always ready for a chat, he loved nothing more than visiting with folks, trading stories and connecting with neighbors. He truly loved going to the class reunions and catching up with fellow classmates.
When he wasn’t working or visiting, David was happiest in the great outdoors. He found true peace and joy in fishing and gardening, tending to the earth and spending quiet mornings by the water, and treasure hunting, keeping a sharp eye out for unique collectibles and various treasurers that caught his appreciation.
Above all, David had a massive heart for animals. He adored his pets with everything he had, leaving behind his treasured blue heeler, Heidi, and his sweet companion, Miss Kitty, who brought immense joy to his daily life.
David is survived by his wife, Debbie Hill, of Tell; daughters Dana Gail Hill Burns and husband Steve, of Georgetown, Texas, and Cindy Hill, of Georgetown; brothers Donald Hill and wife Laura, of Collinsville, Okla., and Glenn Hill and wife Judy, of Baxter Springs, Kan.; sister Patricia Hill McKeever and husband Verlin, of Cache, Okla.; special niece Amy Heymer and husband Todd, of Amarillo, Texas; grandchildren Austen Rodgers, Alexis Adkins and husband Melvin, Tyler Rodgers and wife Jordan, Lauren Neathery, Dillon Burns and Landon Burns; and great-grandchildren Mason Adkins, Abel Pharr and Mila Pharr; along with many nieces, nephews and cousins, as well as his high school classmates of 1964.
David is preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Catherine Hill; son John David Hill; brother Roy Leonard Hill; niece Tammy Walker; and nephew Taylor Hill.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in David’s memory to Southside Baptist Church of Tell or the Childress Senior Citizen Center.
