Lola Dawn Morgan, 90, of Childress passed away on Tuesday, July 21, 2026. She was born on April 24, 1936, in Paris, Texas, to the late Beachem Garrett and Zealma (Horton) Garrett.
Funeral services were held on Friday, July 24, 2026, at Calvary Baptist Church with Mr. Terry Williams officiating. Burial followed at Childress Cemetery under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home.
Lola was a hardworking businesswoman who proudly owned and operated Kay’s Drive-In in Childress for more than 40 years. She had a love for traveling, especially trips to Las Vegas, where she enjoyed gambling and watching the horse races. She also loved shopping and had an eye for fashion, always taking pride in her appearance and faithfully visiting the beauty shop each week. Lola was a woman of many talents and was known as an exceptional homemaker, baker, seamstress, and floral arrangement artist. Above all, she cherished her family and the many memories they shared together.
She is survived by her daughters, Rita Chaisson and husband Russell of Lafayette, Louisiana; Kay Whitener and husband Benny of Childress; Debbie Morgan of Childress; Cindy Perkins and husband Donny of Childress; and Lesa Collins and Curtis Sinclair of Amarillo. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Stephanie Guidry and husband Milton of Youngsville, Louisiana; Lance Whitener of Childress; Jason Whitener of Childress; Brandon Prentice of Wayne, Nebraska; Alicia Glover of Childress, Texas; Christie Owen and husband Derik of Amarillo; April Cooper and Nathan Bylund of Harrisville, Utah; Derrick Collins and wife Rachael of Amarillo; and Colby Collins of Amarillo. Lola also leaves behind 22 great-grandchildren, 22 great-great-grandchildren, numerous extended family members, her sisters Dorothy Patterson of Childress, Texas, Doris Wyatt and husband Franklin of Carey, Texas, Bobbie Loving of Hollis, Oklahoma, Linda Worthington of Childress, Texas, and Carol McLendon and husband Kenneth of Childress, Texas; and her brother, Ray Garrett and wife Brenda of Carey, Texas.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Willie Morgan; her grandson, Ray Whitener; and her parents, Beachem Garrett and Zealma (Horton) Garrett.
The family requests that memorial donations be made in Lola’s memory to the Alzheimer’s Association.
