Body

Thomas Allen Madison, 75, passed away Feb. 8, 2023, in Amarillo,Texas. No services will be held.

He was born March 26, 1947, to W. Clyde Madison and Vivian Jones Madison.

Tom was the best husband, father and son. He took care of his wife’s and mother’s vehicles. He also picked up his mom’s mail, did shopping for her and called her daily.

Tom was his son Matthew’s biggest champion and included many of his friends. He was so proud of Matthew when he received his Master of Business Administration and Master of Science in Economics and Finance.

Matthew has fond memories of his father, stating, “Dad was the rock of our family, and at times, could be a little stubborn, which was very apparent during his final days. He fought and continued to fight until he couldn’t anymore. His love was not only for our family, but his desire to help others was also apparent in his work with the Workforce Commission. From a very early age, dad pushed me to always be the best and strive to achieve excellence. He taught me from a young age to have a good work ethic and to never be afraid to fail. From his support, when I was 9 and had a serious leg injury that could have ended any athletic career, to doing whatever it took to provide me all the opportunities to do what I loved, which was playing basketball, he sacrificed so much for me and our family to make sure we all were taken care of and were able to do the things we enjoyed. From him coaching me in basketball and baseball, to me telling him I needed him to record my basketball games (and to reduce his yelling, which with his voice was very distinct), so we could review and work on areas I needed to improve on. All that coaching from him prepared me to take the next step and play at the collegiate level, where during my four years at West Texas A&M, he, my mom and grandparents only missed two games, which were due to inclement weather and being 15 hours away in Arkansas. Love you,Dad. I will always be your Matthew J.”

Tom’s Uncle James and Aunt Doris also came to most of Matthew’s home games at West Texas A&M. He was as proud of Matthew as Vivian was.

Tom married Kay Teague on Feb. 26, 1972, and they were married for 51 years. He worked for Sears for 11 years and Berry Contracting/Bay Inc. for eight years but spent the majority of his career as the supervising manager for the Texas Workforce Commission in Childress, where he worked 23 years. After entering the nursing home, he encouraged the aids and LVNs to take the next step in their education.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Vivian Jones Madison; his father, W. Clyde Madison; and his grandparents, Texie Pauline Simmons Jones and Elzie Thomas Jones and Allen Madison and Minnie Shaver Madison.
