Margie Ellen Chisolm Underwood was born Nov. 19, 1936, to Henry Grady and Bertha Lee Chisolm in Palo Pinto County, Texas and passed March 28, 2023, in Cleburne, Texas. She grew up the youngest of six children. Margie had three brothers, Walter Charles Chisolm (Dub) (1921-1990); Bert Henry Chisolm ( Joe) (1924-2007); and the lone survivor of the family, Robert James Chisolm (Buck) (1934-present). Margie had two sisters, Mary Chisolm Stockstill (Teda) (1927-2020) and Geneva Lee Chisolm (Spide) (1931-1994).
In 1956, Margie met Billy Joel Underwood, of Tolar, Texas, and was married April 25, 1958. Margie held various jobs over her working career, such as working at General Dynamics in Fort Worth, Texas, as a cotton broker in Childress, Texas, as a State Farm Insurance salesperson in Joshua, Texas and as a dedicated mother to three rambunctious boys.
After retiring, Margie and Billy moved back to the family farm in Tolar, where they spent their days visiting family, playing dominos with friends, tending to farm animals and attending the First Baptist Church of Tolar, where she had been a member since childhood.
Margie is survived by her brother, Buck Chisolm, of Tolar; her three children, Bill Underwood, Jr. and wife Kim, of Childress, Jim Underwood and wife Tracy, of Burleson, Texas, and Dirk Underwood and wife Amy, of Tolar. Margie had multiple grandchildren – Kurt Underwood, Kallie Underwood, Ty Underwood, Nikki Mireles and husband Colton, Cade Underwood, Caileigh Underwood, Kammie Galligan and spouse John, Kacey McKeever, Madalyn Shaw and Riley Shaw. Margie also had nine great-grandchildren.
Funeral services for Margie were conducted on Saturday, April 1, 2023, at Stephenville Funeral Home. Burial followed at Tolar Cemetery in Tolar.
