John Walter Cummings was born May 8, 1943, in Wellington, Texas, to James Frederick and Willie Mona Johnson Cummings. He passed peacefully at home in Owasso, Okla. on Dec. 29, 2023. He was the fifth of nine beloved children and attended school in Quail and Wellington.
John married Sherry Elaine Barker on March 26, 1966, and they welcomed three wonderful daughters in the following years.
He was blessed with a lifelong love of horses, music and pool, but remarked most often of how fortunate he was to have such a large and loving family.
John was awaited in heaven by his parents, Fred and Willie; sister Doris and husband Tom; his brothers, Billy Fred, Ronald and Travis; and granddaughter Maddisun Elane.
Those left with precious memories include beloved daughters Tracy Henderson and husband Brandon, Landee Martin and husband Jason and Crystal Cummings Carlson; as well as siblings Kathy Driver and husband Bill, Sharon Risley and husband Jerry, Bob Cummings and wife Mandy and Gary Cummings; and sisters-in-law Vera “Sissy” Wilson Cummings, Pam Cummings and Marie Cummings; along with eight grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren; and innumerable nieces, nephews and cousins.
Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m., Friday, Jan. 5, at Adams Funeral Home, 1300 East Ave., Wellington.
Services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 6 at the First Methodist Church of Wellington, 901 Bowie St., with Rev. Gene Weinette, pastor, officiating. Burial will follow at Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Wellington. Arrangements in Wellington are by Adams Funeral Home.
