Terry Lee Keener passed away on Jan. 3, 2024, in Childress, Texas.

A Celebration of Life was held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 6, 2024, at the First Presbyterian Church of Childress with Rev. Mary Cantrell officiating.

Family visitation was held from 5-7 p.m. Friday, Jan. 5 at Johnson Funeral Home.

Terry was born on Jan. 10, 1949, to Waymond Lee Keener and Eva Dean (Richards) Keener in San Antonio, Texas.

Terry graduated from Texas A&M University with the Class of 1971. Within that same year, he began his career with the Texas Highway Department in Childress. He was the 1998 recipient of the Gibb Gilchrist Award for “Recognition of Outstanding Service in Highway Engineering with The Texas Highway Department.” In 2004, he was promoted to District Engineer of the Childress District of which he retained this position until his retirement in 2011. He served the community as a director for the Childress Regional Medical Center Board, Old Settlers Association and American Red Cross. Terry was also a member of Childress Masonic Lodge #695. He always enjoyed participating in the Chuckwagon Cookoff around the area and ranching was his favorite pastime.

Terry is preceded in death by his father, Waymond Lee Keener.

He is survived by his wife, Susan Keener, of Childress; mother Dean Keener, of San Antonio, Texas; son Todd Keener and wife Tammy, of Fredericksburg, Texas; daughter Kristine Reid and husband Brandon, of College Station, Texas; daughter Melissa Williamson and husband Kyle, of San Antonio; son Dustin Keener and wife Missy, of Stinnett, Texas; son Chris Brown and wife Tiffany, of Carlsbad, N.M.; daughter Stephanie Guajardo and husband Jake, of Childress; grandchildren Dalton and Wesley Keener, Ashli, Brooke, Emile and Carson Reid; Macey and Lane Williamson, Chase Keener, Chloe Scherer, Silas Scherer, Peighton and Aubrie Brown and Sarah and Benjamin Guajardo; sister Cindy Bagley and husband Bill, of San Antonio; and numerous cousins, nephews and nieces.
