David Elkanah Payne, 80, of Lakeview, Texas, died June 14,2024.He passed peacefully surrounded by his children with a song in his heart.
Services took place at 10 a.m. Tuesday, June 18, 2024, in the Memphis Church of Christ with Tom Anderson and Mark Lance officiating. Burial followed in Lakeview Cemetery in Lakeview. Viewing was held Monday, June 17 at the funeral home with family receiving friends for visitation from 4-6 p.m. Arrangements were by Robertson Funeral Directors of Memphis,Texas.
David was born Oct. 25, 1943, in Lakeview to Herbert D. Payne and Ona Mae Payne. He attended school in Lakeview and later graduated with a bachelor’s degree in business agriculture from Texas Tech University.
An active and avid farmer his entire life, David loved hunting, fishing and going to the mountains.Most of all,he enjoyed watching his children and grandchildren grow.
He was an active member of the Memphis Church of Christ, giving many years of devout service. He was a guiding light to his children and grandchildren. He was a loving son and father.
He was preceded in death by his father, Herbert D Payne; his mother, Ona Mae Payne; and a brother,Garland Payne.
Survivors include daughter, Kitsy Pepper and husband Wade Pepper, of Memphis, and grandchildren Shadie Miller and husband Peter Miller, of Lubbock, Texas, and Christopher Pepper, of Lakeview; daughter Buffy Buchanan and husband Brad Buchanan, and grandchild Jaxson Buchanan, of Canyon, Texas; son Nicholas Payne, and grandchildren Rhyah, Jayde and Paysn, of Fritch, Texas; and cousin, Sandy Smith and spouse Sherri.
