KENNETH DALE ELLIS

Church Service for Kenneth Dale Ellis, 94, of Childress, Texas, will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Aug. 16, 2024, at Childress Methodist Church with Lou Ellerbrook officiating. Interment will follow at Childress Cemetery under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home. Visitation was held from 6-7 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 15, 2024, at the funeral home. Kenneth passed from this life on Aug. 12, 2024, in Childress.

Kenneth was born on May 31, 1930, in Hardeman County, Texas to Virgil Bob Ellis and Margaret Lemley Ellis. He graduated from Kirkland High School and served his country in the Army from 1954-1956. Upon his return, Kenneth became involved in numerous organizations. He was one of the original 13 farmers that helped start the Childress Farmers Co-Op. He served as a director for the Farm Bureau Board, Gate City Electric Board and was a past president of the gin. Kenneth was also an Eagle Scout and a member of the Childress Masonic Lodge and the Methodist Church. His most prized achievement was being a dad and a pawpaw.

Kenneth loved to restore old tractors. The first tractor that he ever bought and restored is what will take him on his final ride to Childress Cemetery.

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Connie Yvonne Ellis, of Childress; daughter Karlene Barber and husband Neil, of Childress; son Terry Canada, of Wellington, Texas; daughter Sherri Barton and husband Jerry, of Quail, Texas; daughter Candy Powell and husband Jeff, of Wellington; grandchildren Brittainy Barber and Matthew, of Panhandle, Texas, Brian Barton, of Wellington, Misty Youngberg, of Samnorwood, Texas, Mason Smith and wife Roxanne, of Dodson, Texas, Keedon Smith and wife Makenzie, of Wellington, Brecklyn Powell, of Wellington, Neely Sweedon and husband Erick, of Frisco, Texas, Heather Williams and husband Brad, of Childress, and Jamie Deerinwater and husband Caleb, of The Woodlands, Texas; and 12 great-grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his first wife, Nelta Redwine Ellis, and his parents, Virgil and Margaret Ellis.
