Walter was born Aug. 18, 1936, to Aubrey and Leafa Spear in Wellington, Texas. He graduated from Wellington High School and married his sweetheart, Sondra Kay “Sonni” White, on Oct. 17, 1959. Together, they celebrated 56 years of marriage before she preceded him in death in 2015. Walter studied at West Texas State University and served in the U.S. Army Reserves. Walter was the Chief of Security at Pantex, where he worked for 37 years.
Walter had a lifelong love of farming and farmed land throughout his life. He loved raising livestock and horses and always had a “side” job. Retirement for Walter meant more opportunities to enjoy his hobbies, as well as lease properties and serve the community through his church and other local organizations. He was one of the founding members of Crossroads Country Church and was so happy to have church services in his barn. Walter never met a stranger. He was friendly, funny, generous and kind.
