John M. Lively, 83, of Wellington, Texas, passed away Wednesday, March 19, 2025, in Amarillo,Texas.

Funeral services took place at 2 p.m. Monday, March 24, 2025, at the Faith Baptist Church in Wellington with Rev. Johnny Hoggatt, pastor, officiating. Burial followed at North Fairview Cemetery. Arrangements were by Adams Funeral Home of Wellington.

Michael Lively, Zach Carson, Bobby Tefertiller, Alex Spielbauer, Tim Baker and Tim White served as pallbearers.

He was born on June 27, 1941, in Du Quoin, Ill., to Luther and Ilene Woodyard Lively.

John moved with his family to Amarillo in 1957 and graduated from Amarillo High School in 1961. He then served three years as a decoder in the U.S. Army.

He married Shirley Horton on March 13, 1999, in Amarillo.

John served as a journeyman electrician, working out of the IBEW Union Local 602 in Amarillo. He worked for Duke Electric at Pantex, until he retired in 2005.

John and Shirley moved from Amarillo to the Lillie Community of Collingsworth County, Texas in 2004. He attended the Faith Baptist Church, and he enjoyed delivering meals for the Collingsworth County Home Delivered Meals program for many years.

He was preceded in death by his parents; by two brothers, Dean and Wayne Lively; a sister, Sharon Critchlow; a grandson, Drake Carson; and a great-granddaughter, Presli Spielbauer.

John’s survivors include his wife, Shirley, of Amarillo; his daughter, Paige Carson, of San Antonio, Texas; his son, Hank Lively, of Albuquerque, N.M.; three stepdaughters, Dena Hanke and husband, Mark, of Amarillo, Michelle Patrick and husband, Doug, of Lockhart,Texas,and Crystal White and husband, Tim, of Lubbock,Texas; 12 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
