Ben Chilton 86, of Wellington, Texas, passed away Thursday, Sept. 14, 2023.

Graveside services were held at 11 a.m. Monday, Sept. 18, 2023, at North Fairview Cemetery with Rev. Gene Weinette, pastor of the First Methodist Church officiating. Arrangements were by Adams Funeral Home of Wellington.

He was born on July 26, 1937, in St. Louis, Mo., to Dexter and Ida Chilton. Ben married Beverly Moon on Nov. 13, 1982, in El Paso, Texas. She preceded him in death in 2016.

Ben and his family moved to Wellington in 1986 from El Paso. He was a meat cutter and meat market manager for Market Square Grocery Store in Wellington for many years, then assumed that position at their Shamrock Store several years ago. He was a hardworking and dependable employee.

He was a Jehovah’s Witness.

Ben was also preceded in death by his parents; a grandson, William Ray Chilton, in 2017; and his son, Chance Chilton, in 2019.

He is survived by seven daughters, Diane Porter, of El Paso, Angie Palacios and Arlene Chilton, both of Odessa, Texas, Suzanne Beasly, of Abilene, Texas, Debbie Chilton, of Las Vegas, Nev., Donna Caetano, of California, and Diana Chilton, of Denver, Colo.; two sons, Joe McCutchen,of Sweetwater, Texas and Jay McCutchen, of El Paso; 24 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
