Dorothy Marie “Dotty” Hartsell, 81, of Gun Barrel City, Texas, formerly of Memphis, Texas, died Thursday, Dec. 26, 2024, in Kaufman, Texas.

Services took place at 1 p.m. Monday, Dec. 30. 2024, in the Memphis Church of Christ with Jim Dixon officiating. Burial followed in Fairview Cemetery in Memphis. Viewing was held from 2-6 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 29, at the funeral home. Arrangements were by Robertson Funeral Directors of Memphis.

Dotty was born June 9, 1943, in Derby, Kan., to Orville “Dutch” and Jimmie Faye Carter Wheeler. She married Jimmy Dale Hartsell on Dec. 26, 1959, in Memphis.

Dotty was a country- western singer who signed with RCA records, where she went by her musical performing name of Wendy Dawn. She loved singing more than anything in the whole world. She enjoyed cake decorating and loved all animals. Dotty had been battling with dementia for the past 15 years.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her sons, Shane Hartsell and Andy Hartsell; a brother, Ted Wheeler; and a sister, Shari Robertson.

Survivors include her husband of 65 years, Jimmy Hartsell, of Gun Barrel City; her daughter, Kathy Jacobs and husband Rob, of Calabasas, Calif.; her brother, Terry Wheeler, of Panhandle, Texas; a granddaughter, Dr. Abigail Jacobs and fiancé Aaron Bastian, of Echo Park, Calif.; and several nieces and nephews.

The family request memorials be sent to the Alzheimer’s Association.
