JANET L. AMONS

Janet L. Ammons, 80, of Wellington, Texas, passed away on July 31, 2024, in Lake Worth,Texas.

Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 17, 2024, at First Baptist Church of Wellington, 1106 15th St., with Pastor Ronnie Lambert officiating. Arrangements are by Adams Funeral Home of Wellington.

Honorary pallbearers are Chris Caraway, Chris Gentry, Jeff Ammons, Faron Tankersley, Leland Ammons and Steven Bodine.

Janet was born Oct. 31, 1943, to Rosa Lee and Lloyd Dunn.The family made their home in Dumas,Texas,where she graduated from Dumas High School in 1962. She went on to attend Hardin Simmons School of Nursing before switching paths to attend beauty school. She returned to Dumas, where she met James Ammons in 1963, and they married May 10, 1964, recently celebrating 60 years of marriage.

They went on to have three children, Rose Ann, Rochelle and Jolene. The family spent their earliest few years in Shamrock, Texas, but they soon made their home in Grand Prairie, Texas, where they remained until 2000. At this time, they returned to Collingsworth County,Texas, where James spent the majority of his life growing up.

Janet worked in the catalog department of Sears in Arlington, Texas for over 15 years. She then took time off to care for her mother. After moving to Wellington in 2000, Janet went to work for Market Square Thriftway grocery store until retiring around 2015. She thoroughly enjoyed her time at Thriftway, where she got to meet so many people and make so many friends in town.

She was active in various groups and clubs over the years, such as the American Legion Auxiliary in Grand Prairie, a women’s bowling league in Arlington, the VFW Auxiliary in Wellington, the Wellington Lions Club and Wellington Professional Women’s Club.

Janet loved decorating for and celebrating Halloween, as it was also her birthday.She loved road-trip-traveling with James, across country and to visit family. A caregiver and supporter, Janet always took care of everyone and supported whatever was important to those she loved. She loved attending high school football games when the girls were in school and in Wellington after they moved back. She loved to attend Kayla’s softball games. Janet loved being a Mom and a Nana and was ready to cheer her girls on for any and every reason.

She is preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Marian and husband Bill Johnson; and daughter Rochelle Ammons.

She is survived by her husband, James Ammons; her daughter, Rose Ann Ammons, of Azle, Texas; her daughter,Jolene Caraway and husband Chris, of Azle; her granddaughter, Kayla Gentry and husband Chris, and great-granddaughter, Allison, of Mineral Wells,Texas.

The family suggests memorial donations be made to Needwood Cemetery Trust, 16220 FM 1439, Shamrock, TX 79079, the Wellington Cemetery Association or for Alzheimer’s research and cure.
