Jesus Lopez Sr., 84, of Wellington, Texas, passed away on Saturday, July 12, 2025, at his home surrounded by his family.
A funeral mass took place at 10 a.m. Tuesday, July 15, 2025, at Our Mother of Mercy Catholic Church with Fr. Anthony Kowtiki as celebrant. Burial followed in Memorial Gardens Cemetery. A rosary was said at 6 p.m. Monday, July 14 at Adams Funeral Home. Arrangements were by Adams Funeral Home of Wellington.
Jesus Lopez Jr., Sammy Lopez, Jose Jacinto Lopez, Roy Granadoz, Raul Rojas, Enrique Jaimes, Tino Salinas and Rogelio Granadoz Jr. served as pallbearers.
Born Dec. 26, 1940, in La Casita Ranch, Texas, to Jose and Guadalupe Vela Lopez, Jesus married Maria Villegas on June 23, 1974, in La Casita Ranch.
The family moved to Wellington in 1990 from Rio Grande City. Jesus served as a farmer and rancher and as a member of the Catholic Church.
A hard worker who took good care of his family, Jesus loved to fish for alligator gar as often as he could. He was preceded in death by his parents, five brothers and three sisters.
Jesus is survived by his wife, Maria; his children, Jesus Lopez Jr. and wife Jennifer, Rosie Rojas and husband Raul, Emilio Lopez and fiancé Teresa Leavitt, Samuel Lopez, Beatriz Jaimes and husband Henry and Jose Jacinto Lopez and wife Ginny; 26 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
