Katrinka Love, 86, died on Sept. 26, 2024, in Childress, Texas.
Graveside services were held at 11 a.m. Monday, Sept. 30, 2024, at the Childress Cemetery with Dr. W. D. Green officiating. Arrangements were under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home. A visitation was held from 6-8 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 29, 2024, at the funeral home.
Katrinka was born Feb. 23, 1938, in Adair, Okla. to parents Callie Freda and Lark Guy Self. She lived in Westville, Okla. until the age of 16, when she met the love of her life, Raymond K. Love. They married on July 7, 1954, and moved to Childress.
She lived all of her life in Childress. She was a very hard worker. She worked at the Childress Sewing Factory until it closed. Then, she began working at Gibson’s, making donuts, until she moved over to the deli and meat market department. In 1977, she started working at United Supermarkets, where, after 24 years of service as a meat clerk, she retired in 2001.
Though family took center stage, she would tell her family she was going to quilting class, and all the while, she was secretly attending classes at the high school, where she obtained her GED. She enjoyed many things. She enjoyed her fellowship with her church family at Calvary Baptist and getting all dressed to attend weekly square-dancing events with Raymond and many friends. She didn’t so much like the lake or the pool, but she would muster up the courage to get in at ankle deep. What she did love was organization of all things and doing it her way, whether it be doing the laundry, dampening the clothes, putting them in the bag in the refrigerator, and on a Sunday afternoon, standing at the ironing board, taking care of a week’s worth of ironing.
Some would say she might be a little sassy, a little opinionated, a little stern or a little bossy, but she would say she just had great leadership skills. She had a few weaknesses, or perhaps, they were vibrant opportunities, as she loved antiques of all kinds. She was stellar at finding a great deal. Her motto has always been, “If you see it; better get it; you will never see it again.” However, sometimes, those great deals, while paying patronage to the Little Debbie warehouse/outlet in Oklahoma while visiting family, created her nickname the “Little Debbie”snack queen.
She was a great cook and very good at substituting ingredients and making do with what she had. If you asked for a recipe, you would get a different version every time. She made it work, but not everyone else could make those adjustments with success. Hands down, no one made a better coconut pie or sock-it-to-me cake.
She loved her kids, her grandkids and her great-grandkids. Her house was home to many visits from all of her family, whether it be sitting outside under the patio, or swinging on the front porch swinging, love was always present.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Raymond K. Love; her parents, Callie and Lark Self; two grandsons, Chance Evan Story and Seth Chalk Guest; her sisters, Maybeline Dale,Grace Dixon and Patricia Jean Self; and her brothers, Clifford Self, Waymond Self, Howard (Tiny) Self and Richard Self.
