Laneda “Fritz” Yvonne Stone, 88, of Amarillo, Texas, passed away on Thursday, March 6, 2025 in Amarillo.
Memorial services took place at 11 a.m. Monday, March 10, 2025, at Second Baptist Church in Amarillo with Dr. Charles Jones and Rev. Larry Davis officiating. Graveside services followed at 3 p.m. at Fairview Cemetery Chapel in Memphis, Texas. Viewing was held from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. on Monday at the funeral home. Arrangements were by Robertson Funeral Directors of Memphis,Texas.
Fritz was born in Dodson, Texas, on Oct. 6, 1936, to Johnny Floyd and Elsie Fay Creach Bartley. One of seven children, she was raised in Memphis.
Later, Fritz married Foy Ray “Stoney” Stone on Aug. 18, 1951. In 1952, the couple moved to Amarillo, where Fritz continued her career in the dry-cleaning business. She worked for Deason Cleaners before becoming the manager of Capri Cleaners for several years. Fritz then branched out on her own and opened Fritz’s OK Cleaners, which she owned and operated for 30 years. Being a successful career woman led her to become a member of the American Business Women’s Association. After retiring, she continued to do seamstress work out of her home.
Fritz was very involved in her children’s events and was active in booster clubs for their school. Her husband was a coach, so the family spent most of their time at sporting events. That meant Fritz was often scorekeeper. She was a very crafty person who enjoyed quilting and painting. She taught her own ceramics class and was a member of a quilting club. Fritz also liked playing games, especially Bunko with her group of friends. She loved her church and was a member of Second Baptist Church in Amarillo for 58 years.
Fritz was a people person who never met a stranger. She held a curiosity for new people and wanted to get to know them on a deep level. Once she knew you, she didn’t let go, and you were a friend for life. She also loved babies and held a special connection with them. Her loving and caring nature drew people to her.
She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 56 years, Stoney in 2007; brother JE Bartley; and three sisters, Fayrene VanHuss, Juanita “Pansy” Headrick and Wanda Sue Morgan.
