LAQUENCIS GIBBS SCOTT

LaQuencis Gibbs Scott, 90, of Danville, Calif., passed away Dec. 7, 2022, from complications of a stroke.

LaQuencis, also known as Quenci, was born Aug. 22, 1932,in Wellington,Texas.The daughter of Urban Gibbs and Ola Driskill Gibbs, she attended grade schools in numerous West Texas towns as her father workedinhighwayconstruction during the 1930s expansion of the Texas highway system. She attended East High School, located in Denver, Colo., and the University of Denver.

After graduation,LaQuencis worked as secretary for Byron White in his law firm, Lewis, Grant and Davis, in Denver. She remained friends with him while he served as a Justice on the Supreme Court of the United States. She worked as a secretary and case worker for Colorado U.S.Senator Gordon Allott inWashington,D.C.and at Allott’s office in Denver.Later, she worked as a case worker for U.S. Representative Benjamin Blackburn, from Atlanta, Ga., in his office in Washington, D.C.

LaQuencis married Eddie Scott, who she was married to for 54 years,in Denver,while he worked as a Patent Lawyer at the Los Alamos National Laboratory, located in Los Alamos, N.M., and they lived in Santa Fe, N.M.

From there, they moved to Dallas,Texas,where she became a Realtor at Ebby Halliday Realty. They moved to Houston, Texas, where her husband became Associate General Counsel for the Fortune 100 Company, Cooper Industries, Inc., for 20 years.

A docent at Bayou Bend, LaQuencis served as a member of the Junior League of Houston, a member of the Blue Bird Circle charity and a member of the Woman’s Institute, Houston. LaQuencis retired when her husband became a Patent Lawyer at the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory in Livermore, Calif. They settled in Danville, where she served as an active member of the Round Hill Garden Club.

LaQuencis served as a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR), the Daughters or the Republic ofTexas (DRT) and the Society of California Pioneers.

LaQuencis is survived by her husband, Eddie Scott; nieces, Lorie Gibbs Johnston and Sheryl Gibbs Swingle, of Pensacola, Fla.,Tina Gibbs Jackson, of Mobile, Ala.; and nephew, Chris Gibbs,of Pensacola.

Graveside services will be at 11 a.m.Saturday,Dec.17,2022, in Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Wellington with Rev. James Ikner, retired Nazarene minister, officiating. Arrangements are by Adams Funeral Home,of Wellington.In lieu of flowers, the family asks that any memorial donations or contributions be made to the Daughters of the Republic of Texas (DRT), P.O. Box 6290, Austin, TX 78762-6290. A DRT memorial medallion will be placed at her grave.
