Leroy Belew, 85, of Wellington, Texas, died Friday, Jan. 6, 2023, in Lubbock, Texas.

Funeral services took place at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 10, 2023, at the First Baptist Church with Keith Martin officiating. Burial followed in North Fairview Cemetery. Arrangements were by Adams Funeral Home of Wellington.

He was born March 3, 1937, in Wellington to Arthur and Lorene Williams Belew. He married Judy Patterson on Jan. 1, 1959, in Wellington. She preceded him in death this past November.

Leroy attended school in Loco, Texas and served in the U.S. Navy from 1955 through 1957.

He worked for Haliburton as a truck driver and warehouseman for over 18 years in Oklahoma and Louisiana and on a crew that put out fires on wildcat wells in Austrailia.

While in Louisiana, he attended culinary school, where he polished his love of cooking. After returning to Wellington, he opened Mr. B’s Restaurant and Catering for several years.

Leroy served as a member of the First Baptist Church. He was a former member of the Wellington Lions Club, where he served as a beginning trainer for their service dog program.

He was also preceded in death by his parents, five sisters and two brothers.

Leroy is survived by his daughter, Tracey McGee, and her husband, Randy, of Rogers, Ark.; two sons, Joe Paul Belew, of Lawton, Okla., and Phillip Lee Belew and his wife, Donna, of Wellington; a sister, Betty Langford, and her husband, Jimmy, of Wellington; two brothers, Kenneth Patterson, and his wife, Helen, of Wellington, and Alton Belew and his wife, Joy, of Glen Rose, Texas; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

The family suggests that memorials be made to the Wellington Cemetery Association or Collingsworth County Home Delivered Meals program.
