Funeral services for Mary Ann Watts,84,were held at 10 a.m. Monday, Aug. 28, 2023, at Carey 1st Baptist Church with Randy Wilson and Travis Leamon officiating. Burial followed in Childress Cemetery under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home. Visitation was held from 5-7 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 27, 2023, at Johnson Funeral Home.

She passed away Thursday, Aug. 24, 2023 in Amarillo.

Mary Ann (Yates) Watts was born Nov. 5, 1938, in Silverton, Colo. to Chester Yates Sr. and Marie Louise Kovith. She was one of nine children in a beautiful, blended family after her mother passed and her father married June. She lived her childhood in the mountains of Colorado and had a deep love for it.

She graduated in 1956 from Durango High School. She had three children, Julie, Mark, and Tommy Duffield. On Oct. 5, 1974, she married William (Bill) Watts, Sr and gained three more children who she loved as her own, Rusty, Vickie and Kimberly Watts. She and Bill led a life filled with love. She sold insurance for many years and was a Xi Pi Sigma-Beta Sigma Phi sorority member.They faithfully attended Carey 1st Baptist Church in Childress, Texas.

She was preceded in death by her husband, William D. Watts, Sr; her mother, father and stepmother; her sister, Judy Szabo; her daughter, Kimberly Dawn Watts; a grandson, David Duffield; sons, Tommy Duffield and Rusty Watts; and a granddaughter, Alana Watts.

She is survived by her daughter, Julie Vallelonga and husband Don, of Colorado Springs; her son, Mark Duffield, of San Antonio; her daughter, Vickie Taylor, of Ennis; her daughter-in-law, Lori Duffield, of Levelland; her sisters, Clara Monger, Stella Hobaugh and husband Howard, of Farmington, N.M. and Grace Yates, of Montrose, Colo.; her brothers, Chester Yates and wife Joy, John Yates, Marvin Yates and wife Terri, all of Montrose, Colo., and Warren Yates and wife Lori, of Rockwood, Tenn.; 16 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, Mary’s wishes were to have donations made in her honor to Meals on Wheels, Childress Public Library or Carey 1st Baptist Church.
