Michael “Tooter” Phillip Widener, 79, of Clyde, Texas, passed away Monday, Aug. 4, 2025, at his home.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 9, 2025, at First Baptist Church in Memphis, Texas, with Pastors Daniel Downing and Keith Martin officiating, with a visitation prior to the service at the church from 8-9:30 a.m. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery in Memphis.

A visitation took place from 6-8 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 7, 2025, at Bailey Howard Funeral Home of Clyde.

Mike was born May 6, 1946, in Memphis, Texas, to Lee Roy and Ima Pearl Phillips Widener. He graduated from Memphis High School and attended West Texas State University in Canyon. He later moved to Clyde in June 1992.

He worked as a farmer and rancher for most of his life and was a member of the First Baptist Church of Memphis. Mike coached 

Little League softball and baseball for both Memphis and Clyde Little League. He was active in 4-H and FFA as a child and also helped his children and grandchildren with their 4-H and FFA projects. He also served as president of the Clyde Junior Livestock Association.

His grandchildren were the loves of Mike’s life, and he spent as much time with them as possible, whether it was a sporting event, 4-H or FFA project or just family time.

He is survived by his son, Doug Widener (Colleen), of Clyde; two daughters, Monica Burchett (Robert), of Breckenridge, Texas, and Katie Hodges (Cody), of Clyde; one brother, Rick Widener (Mary), of Bryan, Texas; eight grandchildren, Brooklyn Widener ( Jake), Kason Burchett, Laramie Hodges, Rachel Burchett, Charlie, Connor and Cade; his former daughter- in-law, Cindy Shelton, of Clyde; and numerous other relatives and friends.

Mike was preceded in death by his parents, Lee Roy and Ima Pearl; and his brothers and sisters, Whimpy Widener, Joyce Ward, Linda Foxhall and Donald Widener.

The family would like to give a special thank you to Carolyn Vinson for her wonderful care and compassion for Mike.
