Wellington artists compete in VASE

AMARILLO – Accompanied by Wellington High School (WHS) art instructor Marnie Kane, five art students competed Saturday, Feb. 21 at the Visual Arts Scholastic Event (VASE) in Amarillo.

Childress’ Lambert named winner of SPEC Youth Tour contest

CHILDRESS — Adlee Lambert, a junior at Childress High School, was recently named one of six winners of the annual South Plains Electric (SPEC) Youth Tour contest, announced Wednesday, Feb. 25, earning a $1,500 scholarship and an all-expensepaid trip to Washington, D.C.
Edie Johnson, coined the “Butterfly Lady” of Childress, presented a program to Delta Kappa Gamma on butterflies that visit Childress, including her Noth American Butterfly Association Certified Butterfly Garden in southeast Childress. She frequently referred to her butterfly display—photos of butterflies she created on sets of triptych panels. Johnson gave a complete list of items to attract butterflies, as well as one item to never include—“no insecticides, ever,” she said. Grace Holman
