MEMPHIS — The Memphis City Council voted unanimously to close its police department during a called meeting Monday, June 22, after years of financial losses and difficulties attracting and retaining qualified officers.
The council, in the same motion, approved pursuing an interlocal agreement with the Hall County Sheriff ’s Department to provide law enforcement services in the city.
