Harvey Leonard “Skippy” Duncan III, beloved Husband, Father, Paw-Paw, Brother and Friend, formerly of Wellington, Texas, peacefully passed away April 11, 2026, surrounded by his loved ones.
A Celebration of Life service is planned for 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 1, 2026, at Wellington First Methodist Church, 901 Bowie St., during the annual Wellington Ex-Students Association reunion activities. Following the service, a reception will be held at the church fellowship hall where friends and family can share stories and remember the good times.
After the reception, the crowd will travel to Memorial Gardens Cemetery to lay Skippy’s ashes to rest. From there, family and friends will stop by Powell Field for a special moment in honor of Skippy’s love for his Wellington Skyrockets. The tribute to Skippy will conclude at BRIX Bar & Eatery on the south side of the square in downtown Wellington to tell more tales and celebrate old times together.

A proud son of Wellington, Texas, Skippy was born on April 5, 1947, to Harvey and Faye Duncan. He loved his hometown, his classmates, and his old friends deeply. He graduated from Wellington High School in 1965, and those friendships stayed close all through the years.
In 1970, Skippy moved to Austin, Texas, where he spent much of his life in the car business. Starting at Henna Chevrolet, he worked for many years as a salesman and longtime sales manager prior to going into the wholesale and retail car business on his own. As he always said, “There’s only two things I know to do, haul hay and sell cars.”
Some of his son’s favorite memories with him were raising lambs for stock shows, going to sheep shows, spending time at the lake, learning to drive, water skiing, night fishing, driving around the square in Wellington, hearing old stories, and just being with him. He loved keeping up with his friends, loved a good drive, loved good music, and loved bringing people together.
Later in life, Skippy enjoyed hosting annual Halloween parties that were almost like a high school reunion. He made sure everybody had a good time, a good drink, and good music. That was just who he was.
Making many trips back to Wellington to visit friends through the years, Skippy attended the ex-students reunion each year. He loved sports, especially his Wellington Skyrockets along with the Texas Longhorns and Dallas Cowboys. He loved hosting and spending time with friends, playing cards and dominoes. He faithfully stayed in touch with friends and family throughout his life, and his quick wit and humorous sayings will be missed by all.
Skippy’s wife Georgia spent more than 55 years as the rock by his side, always loving him and taking care of all the family. The couple moved to Arizona on June 1, 2025, to spend more time with their youngest grandchildren. As his health declined, Skippy truly appreciated all the love sent his way by his old buddies.
We can just imagine Dad getting to heaven and Raymond Horton and the rest of his buddies pulling up in an old car to pick him up for one more ride around the square. He lived a great life here, and now he is getting to see old friends and family again.
He is survived by his wife, Georgia, of Cornville, Ariz.; son, Randy G. Duncan and his wife Melissa, of Salado, Texas; their daughter, Mackenzie Lake and her husband Austin, of Austin, Texas; his daughter, Angela F. Bassett and her husband Peter and their children, Luke and Opal, of Cornville, Ariz.; his sister, Ann Moore and her husband Ronnie, of Lusby, Md.; and a nephew, Russell Moore and wife Colleen, of Hollywood, Md.
The family suggests that memorials be made to the Wellington Ex-Student Association, P.O. Box 386, Wellington, TX 79095.
